Me and You and Everyone We Know

This movie produced by IFCFilms (Independent Film Channel) is in limited release at this moment, which means you have to look for it, to see it. This Sundance movie stars a fragile performance artist (Director Miranda July) who falls in love with a shoe sales man. It's a weird movie remind me of Punch Drunk Love, but what makes this movie special is the "everyone we know" part. If you are feeling like watching something different seek this one out and go see it.

Fantastic Four

There is a reason why I when the second week, I had never been a huge FF fan (Other than Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee mini-series). But I am a big fan of the idea the elemental forces embodied in humans the conflict of Ben's curse and the family aspect of the team. In the comic book they did a re-think recently of this myths in Ultimate Fantastic Four and this take is far fresher and realistic than either the comic or the movie but (there is always a but) from there is that they lifted the idea of Doctor Doom's origin being link to the "accident", which I don't think is such a great idea because if you get technical transforms the movie in the Fantastic Five. Comic Geek chatter aside I think the movie lacks drama and conflict, things that made the Spiderman movies so great. In conclusion if you have to see it go, but your not missing much other than the great effects and ok acting.

Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger

I saw this book sitting in the shelf at the bookstore and thanks to a reference from Ghost in the Shell, opened and started reading it, the beginning is very bold and unapologetic so I guess I am going to read it all and then try to figure out what the reference was. So I finished reading it, excellent reading. It seems to be a high school required reading around here so most people have read it or remember the book. I keep finding references to it everywhere, the night I finished reading it The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson had as a guest Chuck Palahniuk author of Fight Club (the book!) was promoting his new book Haunted and the host compared this to The Catcher in the Rye while I was holding the book and reading the last pages.
As for the Ghost in the Shell reference is this quote that repeats over and over as a theme of the show:"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes". Also one of the recurring characters is called: The Laughing Man, like one of Salinger short stories, interesting enough The Laughing Man is a fictional character inside a fictional story.
Upon a little research I found rumors of a movie being developed, and also movies that took the essence of the character and used to infuse it with some pop resonance (Igby goes Down, and The Good Girl).

Dark Water

Director Walter Salles surprises with his choice of genre, after his last movie (critically acclaimed "The Motorcycle Diaries" about the forming trip across south america that Che Guevara took). But he manages to deliver the same visual style in a more commercial film. The movie isn't much of a fright, but delivers as a drama with a supernatural twist. Jennifer Connelly shines and charms in a roll not very different from her performance in "The House of Sand and Fog" the little girl being the obvious difference. Overall a great looking picture that follows the rend of Japanese remakes, (The Grudge, The Ring, White Noise, etc.) original in it's own little way. A great DVD rental for a rainy afternoon.

I just came back from some time off in the island. Not "The Island" like the movie this island...never mind was great.
I witness a syncronicity event and a tropical storm. Got some multicolored clay, and travel long distances in my bike.
